House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday declared that Congress is a “superior branch” of government, as the clash between congressional Democrats and the Trump administration over documents intensifies.

Fox News reports the California Democrat was asked in an interview for Washington Post Livewhether Congress is functioning as a coequal branch of government, to which she replied, “I think we’re a superior branch, quite frankly.”

Of course, the U.S. system of checks and balances ensures all three branches are coequal.

Pelosi’s comments come as the House Judiciary Committee has subpoenaed several Trump administration officials and decided today to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt for not releasing a fully unredacted version of the Mueller report.
