CHICAGO (AP) — Charges have been filed in the death of a suburban Chicago police officer who was killed while providing traffic control during a crash investigation. Reckless homicide and felony driving under the influence charges were filed Monday against 27-year-old Otis M. Pruitt of Oak Lawn. Hometown police Lt. James Kouski of New Lenox was struck Saturday by the car allegedly driven by Pruitt. Authorities say after hitting Kouski, Pruitt tried to run from the scene but was stopped by officers. Pruitt was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries from the collision. Authorities say Pruitt was found to have a blood alcohol content greater than 0.08%.
