UIC professor named to Society of American Historians

CHICAGO (AP) — A professor from the University of Illinois at Chicago has been named to the Society of American Historians. Barbara Ransby is a professor of African American studies, gender and women’s studies and history. She’s among 20 scholars, journalists and writers to join the invitation-only society. It was established in 1939 at Columbia University to promote scholarship in the writing or presentation of history. Ransby is also director of the Social Justice Initiative at the Chicago campus. Her books include “Making All Black Lives Matter: Reimagining Freedom in the 21st Century."
